Constituents invited to telephone town hall with 15th District representatives

Reps. Bruce Chandler and David Taylor will be hosting a telephone town hall on Monday, March 14. The call works much like a call-in radio show; constituents will be able to ask questions of their representatives or just listen during the hour-long forum.

People who want to participate can join the conversation beginning at 6:30 p.m. by calling toll-free (877) 229-8493, then entering PIN number 15540.

“This is a good opportunity to connect with constituents spread out across our large district,” said Chandler, R-Granger. “I think people find it convenient to chat with us from their own homes. This allows us to go to them, find out what they are most concerned about, and update them on what is happening in the Legislature. In addition, we have chosen a date after a major deadline in the session so we can provide people with a better idea of which bills are moving forward and which are likely dead for the year.”

The 15th District legislators held a telephone town hall in February 2010 in the height of session. More than 450 people were on the call at one point, and 92 people had questions for the representatives. People will also have a chance to leave voicemails after the call with their questions or comments.

“The people of our district take an active interest in the Legislature, and they're well-informed about the issues we're dealing with in Olympia. The best thing about the teleforum technology is that it allows us to reach out to many more people than would be able to take part in a traditional in-district town meeting,” said Taylor, R-Moxee. “The comments and suggestions constituents share with us will be valuable in guiding the decisions we'll be making in Olympia during the second half of the session.”
